UNDERGROUND COLLECTION UNITS

We have already exceeded the EU's recycling targets for 2020 by 10%.

WE GET BETTER EVERY YEAR AT SEPARATING OUR RUBBISH

For effective and eye-friendly waste disposal, we have installed 53 underground collection units in the city centre. Underground collection units for paper, glass and packaging are accessible to all, while receptacles for biological and other waste are intended for nearby households.

These are opened with a special card which record the waste input, which in turn determines the level of the monthly bill.

CLEANING ALL THE WAY TO YOUR DOORSTEP

Ljubljana is distinguished by a sophisticated waste management system which produces excellent results:  63% material recovery in 2014. Underground collection units give numerous advantages – the most important are the greater tidiness of the street, greater traffic safety, easier deposit of rubbish for children, the elderly and disabled, less noise from rubbish collection, less unpleasant smell and less vandalism. We installed the first in 2008. We must be aware that separating waste is not the waste management service Snaga's work, but all of ours.

NEW RECEPTACLES

Underground collection units have been installed in 53 places in downtown Ljubljana, and about another 40 are planned in various phases.

LET'S RAISE OUR VOICES AGAINST FOOD WASTE

A quarter of the material left in the receptacles for other waste is organic and much of this is (still consumable) food. As part of a campaign called Lets' raise our voices against food waste, receptacles were (with a little help from Snaga) given protest stickers warning against this inappropriate waste of food and challenging us to change.

FROM (EXCELLENT) RECYCLING TO (EFFECTIVE) PREVENTION

Recycling waste is only the third most desirable outcome – in first place is prevention (taking care that there is no waste), and in second place is reuse.

DID YOU KNOW?

Consistent separation leads to less waste and thus lower costs of managing it, which is reflected in our waste management bills. Due to a rise in the share of separated waste and less waste going to landfill, in December 2014 Snaga gave every user a credit note equal to the amount of December's waste management bill. Snaga is permitted to do this by legislation (Rules of tariff system for public service on the environmental field), which is a good thing and works well.

I pledge that I will adopt a philosophy of reuse and I will ensure that things I no longer need are given a new life.
