Ljubljana's trees

Builders of quality of life and designers of space.

LUNGS OF THE CITY

Urban trees are constantly rising in importance, and also growing in economic and ecological importance.

MORE TREES, GREATER QUALITY OF LIFE

Ljubljana is blessed with over 180 varieties of trees. Just like in other cities, trees in Ljubljana increase the general attractiveness of the environment for socialising and contribute to the pleasantness and beauty of the urban environment.

CARING FOR TREES

Trees have a positive impact on the psycho-physical wellbeing of people in the city and contribute significantly to the health, beauty and functionality of the urban environment. Trees affect the temperature and humidity in the city, trap dust particles, noise, wind and rainwater, produce oxygen, block solar radiation and cleanse the air, making an important contribution to the quality of the urban residential environment for people, animals and plants.

ONE TREE RECYCLES €32,000 OF WATER

Every hour, an adult tree consumes 2.3KG of carbon dioxide and produces 1.7KG of oxygen. This oxygen is enough for ten people to breathe.  If this is expressed financially, in a 50-year life cycle, a tree reduces the cost of measures against air pollution by €52,000, recycles €31,000 of water and its contribution to reducing soil erosion is €26,000.
