Bee trail

The bee trail is movement, belief and a network of the like-minded.

THE HERITAGE OF BEEKEEPING

Beekeeping in Ljubljana is prehistoric. Medno village derives its name from the word 'honey'.  The City Savings Bank's sign features a bee and hive. A honey market was held on Congress Square a century ago. Architect Jože Plečnik had a beehive in his garden.

URBAN BEEKEEPING

Beehives are found in various locations in urban Ljubljana – at Cankarjev dom, near Ljubljana Pharmacy's HQ, at BTC City and on the roof of the Spanish Fighters' Cultural Centre. Urban beekeepers come together in the Society of Urban Beekeepers.

LJUBLJANA HONEY

The title of 'Ljubljana' can be given to honey produced within the boundaries of the City of Ljubljana, and is flower, chestnut or forest (pastures available to bees in Ljubljana), the producer has the SHPGI certificate – Slovenian Honey with Protected Geographic Indication.
